East­ern School Board’s new CEO

East­ern School Board Chair Milton Peach has an­nounced the ap­point­ment of Ford Rice as the board’s new CEO/Di­rec­tor of Ed­u­ca­tion.

Mr. Rice has been the act­ing CEO since Apr. 28. He re­places Dar­rin Pike, who was re­cently ap­pointed Deputy Min­is­ter, Depart­ment of Ed­u­ca­tion.

Mr. Peach sug­gested “Mr. Rice’s com­bi­na­tion of ed­u­ca­tion, ex­pe­ri­ence and lead­er­ship in the ed­u­ca­tion field, and in the East­ern School District,

will en­sure a seam­less tran­si­tion at the se­nior man­age­ment level. Mr. Rice shares the Board’s vi­sion for stu­dent achieve­ment and suc­cess.

“He was an in­te­gral part of the de­vel­op­ment of the Board’s Strate­gic Plan 2008-2011, and we look for­ward to his con­tin­ued lead­er­ship as we fur­ther im­ple­ment the plan’s goals and ob­jec­tives.”

Prior to this most re­cent ap­point­ment, Mr. Rice held the po­si­tion of As­sis­tant Di­rec­tor of Ed­u­ca­tion (Pro­grams) with the East­ern School District. In his 28-year ca­reer in ed­u­ca­tion, he held a num­ber of teach­ing and ad­min­is­tra­tive po­si­tions through­out the prov­ince, as well as

a num­ber of se­nior man­age­ment po­si­tions with East­ern School District. Mr. Rice’s ap­point­ment is ef­fec­tive im­me­di­ately. The East­ern School District is the largest school district in the prov­ince with ap­prox­i­mately 42,000 stu­dents, 121 schools and over 4,000 em­ploy­ees.
