Donations upgrade patient lounge at BPHCC
A patient lounge at the Burin Peninsula Health Care Centre has a new look thanks to two donor groups.
One donation was from ‘Kin and friends’, and the other was a memorial gift made in honour of Reg LeGrow.
Marystown Kinsmen Dennis Kelly, a spokesperson for Kinsmen, K40, Kinettes and partners, explained how the project came about.
“During the dedication of the kidney dialysis unit, a commitment to re-furnish the patient lounge area was made by Marystown Kinsmen and Dialysis Committee members.
“ Dialysis and chemotherapy patients are often escorted for treatment by family and all patients/visitors deserve to have a comfortable place to meet. The Kin family and its partners are pleased to secure the funding to purchase the beautiful lounge furniture and decor for the room renovation.”
The room was furnished with a new flat screen television, thanks to family and friends of Mr. LeGrow, who passed away last December. His wife Effie, son Tom and his wife, Heather, represented the family at the presentation.
Tom acknowledged “Mom and our entire family are very pleased to direct memorial gifts that were made in dad’s name to this room renovation project.
“Making this health care gift is very fitting as Dad had a great deal of respect and support for our local health care providers and centre. Later this summer, all family members will complete the project by placing a print in the room in his honour.”
Beth Mayo, Eastern Health’s Director of Integrated Services for the Burin Peninsula, thanked all involved for their generous gifts.
“This room offers patients, families and friends a warm and inviting place to meet. Eastern Health thanks the Kin Family, Dialysis Group and their many partners and the LeGrow family for choosing to support this room renovation, as we recognize the continued contribution and impact such gifts have.”
Burin Peninsula Health Care Foundation chairperson Cyril Dodge said the organization would ensure the room would soon feature a digital photo album, displaying photos of the generous groups and individuals involved in the project.
