The Burin Penin­sula District RCMP is seek­ing the as­sis­tance of the com­mu­nity in solv­ing a case of mis­chief.

Some­one, us­ing a paint­ball gun Oct. 11, shot at a house on Wa­ter Street in Marys­town. This same res­i­dence was also struck by paint­balls the night of Oct. 6.

The po­lice ad­vise the gen­eral pub­lic if you shoot a paint­ball gun at some­one you will be ar­rested and charged with ‘As­sault with a Weapon’. This charge is se­ri­ous and car­ries with it a max­i­mum jail sen­tence of 10 years.

If you shoot at some­one’s pri­vate prop­erty, you will be ar­rested and charged with ‘Mis­chief’. This charge is also se­ri­ous and car­ries with it a max­i­mum jail sen­tence of two years.

If you com­mit the of­fence of Mis­chief caus­ing ac­tual dan­ger to life, you will be ar­rested and charged with same and if con­victed you can be sen­tenced to a jail term of life in prison.
