Moun­ties seize con­tra­band

RCMP on the Burin Penin­sula made two seizures to­talling 128 cases of con­tra­band al­co­hol Wed­nes­day night, val­ued at over $42,000.

RCMP mem­bers from the Cus­toms and Ex­cise Sec­tion in Burin, with the as­sis­tance of the Burin Penin­sula District RCMP, seized 46 cases (276 - 60 ounce bot­tles) of con­tra­band al­co­hol in the com­mu­nity of Lawn. Po­lice also con­fis­cated a green 1994 Chevro­let S/10 Pickup truck.

One male sus­pect from the com­mu­nity was ar­rested at the scene and is sched­uled to ap­pear in Grand Bank Pro­vin­cial Court. Charges un­der the Ex­cise Act 2001 and the Liquor Con­trol Act are be­ing pur­sued in this in­ves­ti­ga­tion.

In the sec­ond seizure that night, 82 cases (492 - 60 ounce bot­tles) of con­tra­band al­co­hol were made in the com­mu­nity of Lord’s Cove. That mat­ter too is still un­der in­ves­ti­ga­tion.
