Mounties seize contraband
RCMP on the Burin Peninsula made two seizures totalling 128 cases of contraband alcohol Wednesday night, valued at over $42,000.
RCMP members from the Customs and Excise Section in Burin, with the assistance of the Burin Peninsula District RCMP, seized 46 cases (276 - 60 ounce bottles) of contraband alcohol in the community of Lawn. Police also confiscated a green 1994 Chevrolet S/10 Pickup truck.
One male suspect from the community was arrested at the scene and is scheduled to appear in Grand Bank Provincial Court. Charges under the Excise Act 2001 and the Liquor Control Act are being pursued in this investigation.
In the second seizure that night, 82 cases (492 - 60 ounce bottles) of contraband alcohol were made in the community of Lord’s Cove. That matter too is still under investigation.
