Pro­pos­als called for Tar­geted Ini­tia­tive for Older Work­ers

El­i­gi­ble com­mu­nity-based or­ga­ni­za­tions are be­ing en­cour­aged to sub­mit pro­pos­als for an­other ‘ Tar­geted Ini­tia­tive for Older Work­ers’ pro­gram.

Pro­pos­als are in­vited from com­mu­nity-based or­ga­ni­za­tions to de­sign and de­liver tar­geted ini­tia­tives for un­em­ployed older work­ers who are: - be­tween 55 and 64 years of age; - lack­ing skills for suc­cess­ful in­te­gra­tion into new em­ploy­ment; and

- liv­ing in com­mu­ni­ties where an es­ti­mated 20 per cent of the com­mu­nity’s labour force has re­lied on an in­dus­try af­fected by down­siz­ing or clo­sure.

El­i­gi­ble projects should be:

- Linked to lo­cal eco­nomic de­vel­op­ment plans and ini­tia­tives;

- In­volve a min­i­mum of 25 hours per week of pro­gram­ming;

- In­clude vo­ca­tional and/or learn­ing as­sess­ments; ba­sic skills up­grad­ing; skills train­ing; men­tor­ing; work ex­pe­ri­ence; prepa­ra­tion for self-em­ploy­ment; job de­vel­op­ment and job search ser­vices; and em­ploy­ment coun­sel­ing.

El­i­gi­ble spon­sors are com­mu­ni­ty­based or­ga­ni­za­tions with ex­per­tise in the de­liv­ery of em­ploy­ment pro­gram­ming.

The dead­line for sub­mis­sions is Feb. 19, 2010.
