Marys­town Cen­tral High School Grad­u­ate Wil­liam Short, a son of Mary Lou and Eric Short, re­ceived sev­eral awards this past spring rec­og­niz­ing his vol­un­teerism, com­mu­nity in­volve­ment and lead­er­ship shown in es­tab­lish­ing his own reg­is­tered Cana­dian Chil­dren’s Char­ity, the ‘Short Cir­cuit Dream Fund’. He re­ceived the pro­vin­cial govern­ment’s ‘2009-2010 U-Rock Award’, was se­lected a fi­nal­ist for both the ‘ TD Canada Trust Schol­ar­ship for Com­mu­nity Lead­er­ship’ and the ‘Na­tional Loran Award’. The Loran Awards Pro­gram of­fers a $3,000 en­trance Schol­ar­ship spon­sored by Sco­tia Bank. Wil­liam was also awarded the ‘ Terry Fox Hu­man­i­tar­ian Award’, re­ceiv­ing $28,000 for post-sec­ondary stud­ies.
