Police seek public’s assistance

The Southern Gazette - - NEWS -

The Burin Peninsula District RCMP is seeking the public’s assistance in solving a break and enter, a case of theft and property damage in the Marystown-Burin area.

A cabin in the Green Hill area of Burin was broken into sometime July 5-12. Quantities of rum, along with a generator, were stolen.

A number of signs have recently been stolen in the Mooring Cove area, near the OCI fish plant. This is a serious offence as these signs are meant to safely direct the proper flow of traffic.

Stealing road signs can lead to a number of motor vehicle collisions, ranging from minor fender benders to serious fatalities. The possible consequences of such action are being charged with theft, mischief and/or mischief causing endangerment to life and manslaughter.

The last two offences carry a maximum sentence of life in prison.

And damage was done to a bench in Black Duck Cove May 15. The bench was located at the end of Spar Crescent.

If you have any information regarding this or any other offence call the RCMP at (709) 279-3001 or 1-800-709-RCMP (7267). Crimestoppers may also be contacted at 1-800-222TIPS (8477) or online at ‘www.nlcrimestoppers.com’.
