For­tune park named in mem­ory of two vic­tims of helicopter crash

In recog­ni­tion of a national tragedy, a new park in For­tune will be named in mem­ory of two fallen vic­tims – Wade Drake and Burch Nash.

Both men were among 17 vic­tims of the Cougar Flight 491 crash in March 2009. The work­ers were be­ing was fer­ried to the Searose FPSO and Hiber­nia Plat­form when the Siko­rsky S-92 air­craft went down.

The of­fi­cial park name will be the ‘ Wade Drake & Burch Nash Fam­ily Park’.

There was a vol­un­teer com­mit­tee es­tab­lished in For­tune with a goal to de­velop a state of the art fam­ily park, which in­cludes a walk­ing trail with benches for se­niors, play­ground equip­ment for chil­dren, open green spa­ces, pic­nic area and trees.

As part of de­vel­op­ing the new park, a new name was se­lected. And in ded­i­ca­tion of the national tragedy and two fel­low For­tuners, the park is named in their mem­ory.

Burch and Wade lived life to the fullest and had deep val­ues for their re­spec­tive fam­i­lies and friends. Both en­joyed the out­doors and were ac­tively in­volved in sports.

In ad­di­tion to rec­og­niz­ing this tragedy, as well as Wade and Burch, the park will also be of­fer­ing the op­por­tu­nity to rec­og­nize oth­ers through a ‘Bench & Tree Pro­gram’. Fam­i­lies can spon­sor a bench or tree in mem­ory of a loved one, in recog­ni­tion of their fam­ily name or a busi­ness/or­ga­ni­za­tion can spon­sor a bench or tree in recog­ni­tion of their busi­ness/or­ga­ni­za­tion.

The park is sched­uled to be opened in July 2012.
