The Southern Gazette - - FRONT PAGE -

The Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture is now accepting applications for its annual high school scholarship.

This scholarship offers $1,000 to a graduating high school student in Newfoundland and Labrador. This student must be entering post-secondary studies and best demonstrate knowledge of the province’s fishing or aquaculture industries.

Students must submit a 2,500-word essay to enter. As well, academic standing and extracurricular activities will be examined.

Provincial high school students, who graduate in June 2012 and are pursuing post-secondary studies in the 2012-13 academic year, are welcome to apply for this scholarship.

Each applicant should outline their community and extracurricular activities in the completed application and include a letter of reference, along with their essay submission.

Applications should be received or postmarked before 4 p.m., June 29 at the following address: Scholarship Application Committee, c/o Communications Division Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture, 30 Strawberry Marsh Road, Box 8700, St. John’s, A1B 4J6.
