Penin­sula road re­pairs ten­dered

Re­pairs to in­fra­struc­ture on the Burin Penin­sula are sched­uled as part of the an­nual Pro­vin­cial Roads Im­prove­ment Pro­gram.

Trans­porta­tion and Works Min­is­ter Tom Hed­der­son said gov­ern­ment is mov­ing ahead with im­por­tant road im­prove­ment work on the Burin Penin­sula this con­struc­tion sea­son.

“The work in this ten­der will help en­sure that the Al­lan’s Is­land Cause­way, an im­por­tant trans­porta­tion link in the area, is prop­erly main­tained for the ben­e­fit of those trav­el­ling in the re­gion.”

A ten­der has been called for the en­hance­ment of rock fill and ar­mour stone on sec­tions of the Al­lan’s Is­land Cause­way. Also in­cluded in the ten­der are re­pairs to a large cul­vert on Route 220 at Lawn River.

Grand Bank MHA Darin King in­di­cated “This work will help en­sure the trans­porta­tion net­work in the re­gion will continue to serve com­mu­ni­ties well.”

Re­pairs to the sta­bi­liz­ing ma­te­ri­als of a large cul­vert at Rat­tle Brook on Route 215 to­ward Petit Forte are also in­cluded in this ten­der.

Burin-Pla­cen­tia West MHA Clyde Jack­man said “I am pleased this project will be com­pleted, as it will help en­sure the in­tegrity of this struc­ture and the Petit Forte Road.”

Bud­get 2012 pro­vided $165.1 mil­lion to en­hance pro­vin­cial road and bridge in­fra­struc­ture, in­clud­ing $60.1 mil­lion in con­tin­ued in­vest­ment in the Pro­vin­cial Roads Im­prove­ment Pro­gram. This in­vest­ment is sup­ple­mented by $60 mil­lion in fed­eral gov­ern­ment fund­ing, for a to­tal in­vest­ment in 2012-13 of $225.1 mil­lion.
