The Southern Gazette - - SPORTS -

Defenceman Andrew Picco has made the Rimouski Oceanic of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

Andrew, from Marystown, had an outstanding camp this month. He only had 10 weeks to prepare for camp.

Rimouski is a Memorial Cup contender and Andrew is expected play a regular shift in the top six defence.

The coach publicly stated in the local newspaper Andrew will play a regular shift and will have an immediate impact this year calling Andrew “a first rounder,” and would have been only for his injury last year. His doctor only released him from his concussion in early June.

Andrew signed a contract Aug. 17 and received all the benefits a first rounder would have received. He then played in his first exhibition game that night against Victoriaville, which Rimouski won 3-2, playing a solid game.

Andrew is still in Rimouski practicing with the team, preparing for the season opener.

Picco is a son of Glen and Brenda Picco of Marystown.
