Po­lice ar­rest 5 stu­dents for il­le­gal drug pos­ses­sion

The RCMP’s Burin Fed­eral Polic­ing Op­er­a­tions West has ar­rested five stu­dents for pos­ses­sion of il­le­gal drugs.

The in­ves­ti­ga­tion for sell­ing of con­trolled sub­stances - drugs, par­tic­u­larly mar­i­juana, was con­ducted Sept. 13 around the prop­erty of Marys­town Cen­tral High School.

As a re­sult of this in­ves­ti­ga­tion, four stu­dents were ar­rested in pos­ses­sion of a con­trolled sub­stance. Upon fur­ther in­ves­ti­ga­tion, an­other stu­dent at the school was later ar­rested and was charged with traf­fick­ing of a con­trolled sub­stance (mar­i­juana).

The youth was re­leased and will ap­pear in Grand Bank Provin­cial Court in Novem­ber.

Burin Team Leader Sgt. John Cribb said the RCMP is con­cerned with young peo­ple pos­sess­ing and con­sum­ing con­trolled drugs.

Po­lice are en­cour­ag­ing res­i­dents, with any in­for­ma­tion con­cern­ing il­le­gal ac­tiv­ity in their com­mu­nity, to con­tact the RCMP or anony­mously through Crime Stop­pers at 1800-222-TIPS (8477).
