Police arrest 5 students for illegal drug possession
The RCMP’s Burin Federal Policing Operations West has arrested five students for possession of illegal drugs.
The investigation for selling of controlled substances - drugs, particularly marijuana, was conducted Sept. 13 around the property of Marystown Central High School.
As a result of this investigation, four students were arrested in possession of a controlled substance. Upon further investigation, another student at the school was later arrested and was charged with trafficking of a controlled substance (marijuana).
The youth was released and will appear in Grand Bank Provincial Court in November.
Burin Team Leader Sgt. John Cribb said the RCMP is concerned with young people possessing and consuming controlled drugs.
Police are encouraging residents, with any information concerning illegal activity in their community, to contact the RCMP or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1800-222-TIPS (8477).
