The Burin Penin­sula Autism Sup­port Group will also be be­gin­ning its reg­u­lar monthly meet­ing the first Thurs­day of each month, start­ing Mar. 6 at its lo­ca­tion in the Marys­town Mall at 7 p.m.

Doggy Fash­ion Show

The Royal Cana­dian Legion, Branch 29 in Salt Pond, Burin, is host­ing its first an­nual Doggy Fash­ion Show.

It’s sched­uled Sun­day, Mar. 23, start­ing at 2 p.m.

Awards for first, sec­ond and third prize pups will be pre­sented for the best dressed and best be­haved with a great per­son­al­ity dog you own.

Also there will be a can­teen, 50/50 draw and lots of fun. Pro­fes­sion­als in doggy fash­ion and groom­ing will be in at­ten­dance.

Dry good do­na­tions will be ac­cepted at the door for the SPCA.

Arts Scholarshi­ps

The Burin Penin­sula Arts Coun­cil is ac­cept­ing ap­pli­ca­tions for 2014 Arts Scholarshi­ps. El­i­gi­ble re­cip­i­ents are first year stu­dents en­gaged in sec­ondary stud­ies in the fields of Vis­ual, Mu­sic or Theatre Arts. United Way sup­port

United Way of NL has is­sued its an­nual Call for Pro­pos­als for Com­mu­nity Fund grants. This CFP in­vites reg­is­tered char­i­ties to sub­mit pro­pos­als sup­port­ing the im­pact ar­eas iden­ti­fied by United Way. The fund­ing is of­fered through sup­port of in­di­vid­u­als and or­ga­ni­za­tions dur­ing United Way’s 2013 workplace cam­paign. In 2013, 50 com­mu­nity groups from through­out the prov­ince were re­cip­i­ents of 50 grants to­tal­ing $650,000.

Arts Fund­ing Op­por­tu­ni­ties

The New­found­land and Labrador Arts Coun­cil ( NLAC) is now ac­cept­ing ap­pli­ca­tions for its Pro­fes­sional Project Grants Pro­gram ( for in­di­vid­ual artists, groups, and non-profit arts or­ga­ni­za­tions). Dead­line is Tues­day, Mar.18,. Projects must start on/af­ter May 15, 2014. The Burin Me­mo­rial Li­brary is again of­fer­ing free com­puter classes for beginners. The pro­gram in­cludes In­ter­net ba­sics, Com­puter ba­sics, In­ter­net bank­ing, Face­book, In­ter­net shop­ping, Mi­crosoft Of­fice, Word or any other pro­gram of in­ter­est.
