outstanding leadership since coming to Eastern Health in June 2009, and it has been a privilege to work with her for the past several years to improve the quality and safety of care being provided to the residents of the eastern region and to strive to put the organization on sound financial footing.”
He said during Ms. Kaminski’s term at Eastern Health, she led the organization through tremendous change as it addressed the issues coming out of the Cameron Inquiry into one of the most significant patient-related adverse health events experienced by a health authority - the errors in estrogen and progesterone receptor (ER/PR) testing.
“When Ms. Kaminski arrived, Eastern Health had a lot of work to do to instill confidence in the quality and safety of care being provided by the organization. Her approach in dealing with issues in an open, transparent and honest way has served the organization well in rebuilding that confidence among not only the people directly served by Eastern Health but indeed right across the province.”
Mr. O’Keefe said Ms. Kaminski leaves the organization with many significant accomplishments to her credit that has positioned the organization to continue to improve and sustain health care delivery in the province.
He thanked Ms. Kaminski on behalf of the Board of Trustees for her commitment and dedication to Eastern Health and to the patients, residents and clients served by the organization.
The recruitment of a replace- ment for Ms. Kaminski will begin in the near future. Further details will be announced once available.
Eastern Health is the largest, integrated health authority in Newfoundland and Labrador employing approximately 13,000 dedicated employees and serving a population of more than 300,000 people. The authority has an annual budget of approximately $1.3 billion and offers the full continuum of health and community services including public health, long-term care, community services, hospital care and unique provincial programs and services.
Its geographic boundaries extend from St. John’s west to Port Blandford including all communities on the Avalon, Burin and Bonavista Peninsulas.
Eastern Health President/CEO Vicki Kaminski has resigned, effective May 31.
