East­ern Health pres­i­dent/CEO re­signs

out­stand­ing lead­er­ship since com­ing to East­ern Health in June 2009, and it has been a priv­i­lege to work with her for the past sev­eral years to im­prove the qual­ity and safety of care be­ing pro­vided to the res­i­dents of the east­ern re­gion and to strive to put the or­ga­ni­za­tion on sound fi­nan­cial foot­ing.”

He said dur­ing Ms. Kamin­ski’s term at East­ern Health, she led the or­ga­ni­za­tion through tremen­dous change as it ad­dressed the is­sues com­ing out of the Cameron In­quiry into one of the most sig­nif­i­cant pa­tient-re­lated ad­verse health events ex­pe­ri­enced by a health author­ity - the er­rors in es­tro­gen and pro­ges­terone re­cep­tor (ER/PR) test­ing.

“When Ms. Kamin­ski ar­rived, East­ern Health had a lot of work to do to in­still con­fi­dence in the qual­ity and safety of care be­ing pro­vided by the or­ga­ni­za­tion. Her ap­proach in deal­ing with is­sues in an open, trans­par­ent and hon­est way has served the or­ga­ni­za­tion well in re­build­ing that con­fi­dence among not only the people di­rectly served by East­ern Health but in­deed right across the prov­ince.”

Mr. O’Keefe said Ms. Kamin­ski leaves the or­ga­ni­za­tion with many sig­nif­i­cant ac­com­plish­ments to her credit that has po­si­tioned the or­ga­ni­za­tion to con­tinue to im­prove and sus­tain health care de­liv­ery in the prov­ince.

He thanked Ms. Kamin­ski on be­half of the Board of Trustees for her com­mit­ment and ded­i­ca­tion to East­ern Health and to the pa­tients, res­i­dents and clients served by the or­ga­ni­za­tion.

The re­cruit­ment of a re­place- ment for Ms. Kamin­ski will be­gin in the near fu­ture. Fur­ther de­tails will be an­nounced once avail­able.

East­ern Health is the largest, in­te­grated health author­ity in New­found­land and Labrador em­ploy­ing ap­prox­i­mately 13,000 ded­i­cated em­ploy­ees and serv­ing a pop­u­la­tion of more than 300,000 people. The author­ity has an an­nual budget of ap­prox­i­mately $1.3 bil­lion and of­fers the full con­tin­uum of health and com­mu­nity ser­vices in­clud­ing pub­lic health, long-term care, com­mu­nity ser­vices, hospi­tal care and unique provin­cial pro­grams and ser­vices.

Its ge­o­graphic bound­aries ex­tend from St. John’s west to Port Bland­ford in­clud­ing all com­mu­ni­ties on the Avalon, Burin and Bon­av­ista Penin­su­las.

East­ern Health Pres­i­dent/CEO Vicki Kamin­ski has re­signed, ef­fec­tive May 31.
