Grande Meadows set to open for the sea­son

Grand Meadows Golf Course in French­man’s Cove opens to the pub­lic for 2014 sea­son Thurs­day and will be­gin tak­ing tee times to­day. The course opened for mem­bers only Fri­day morn­ing. Grande Meadows will host the 17th Men’s In­vi­ta­tional Golf Tour­na­ment June 6-8.

The club is hop­ing as many for­mer par­tic­i­pants as pos­si­ble will make a spe­cial ef­fort to take part.

Fri­day, June 6 will be re­served for an 18-hole prac­tice round. The tour­na­ment will con­sist of two 18-hole rounds on Satur­day, June 7 and Sun­day, June 8. Play­ers will be di­vided into three di­vi­sions based on hand­i­cap.

The French­man’s Cove course will also play host to Golf New­found­land Labrador’s 2014 Adult Cham­pi­onships this year from July 3-6.

Clovelly in St. John’s will host the ju­nior cham­pi­onship from July 7-10.

Over the win­ter, the Com­pe­ti­tions Com­mit­tee was busy putting plans in place to en­hance the com­pe­ti­tions. For 2014, play­ers will see a num­ber of changes, in­clud­ing di­vi­sional play with net prizes, a num­ber of prize draws, fun com­pe­ti­tions and the crown­ing of the provin­cial cham­pi­ons in the var­i­ous di­vi­sions.

On­line reg­is­tra­tion for both the adult and ju­nior com­pe­ti­tions opened May 5 with the dead­line for adults July 1 and the ju­nior July 4.
