His first time out, Andrew Warren was the overall winner of the Targa Tom Hollett Memorial Bambina.

The Burin man and his navigator, George Gouzvaris, competed in a 1990 Ford Mustang Cobra.

They won over past Targa award winners Mike Mercer and Corey Prosser. Warren took five time penalties in the race to Mercer’s six, giving him a one second advantage and the win.

“What interested me originally about taking part was the chance to get to experience the real life racecar feeling in such a great area like the Burin Peninsula, while also getting to help in the growth and development of such a wonderful event like Targa,” Warren said.

Upon registering for the event, Warren said he was taking part for another reason, he was riding in memory of his cousin, Cortney Lake.

“Sadly, the day of registration, all of those feelings changed when I received the news that the RNC were about to update the public that my cousin Cortney’s case was now being considered a homicide,” he said.
