Abby Brenton and Mallory Spencer invited to special luncheon
Abby Brenton and Mallory Spencer both agree that having an opportunity to have lunch with the Governor General of Canada Julie Payette was a unique experience.
“Going to the Government house was such a surreal feeling,” Brenton told The Southern Gazette. “It was really fancy and it was just a great experience getting to meet and speak with the Governor General, the Premier and the Lieutenant Governor — they’re all just really humble people.”
Spencer added, “There were a lot of other influential people there. I sat next to Bethany Downer, the girl who is going to train at NASA to become an astronaut.
“Just by talking to everybody around me I learned a lot about different things, different career paths it was just a really educational and fun experience wrapped up into one,” she said.
The luncheon with the Governor General was made possible by the group Esteem Women Inc.
Both Brenton and Spencer in that past have taken part in previous events hosted by that group.
“The head of that program got invited to the luncheon and she was able to take three of her girls with her. So Abby and I were lucky enough to be two (of them).”
Michaela Barnes of Clarenville also attended the luncheon.
Abby Brenton and Mallory Spencer said it was a “surreal” experience being invited to attend a luncheon with Governor General Julie Payette, Premier Dwight Ball and Lieutenant Governor Judy Foote. Left to right are: Governor General Payette, Abby Brenton, Mallory Spencer and Premier Ball.
