The Town of Marystown’s tennis court project took another step forward during council’s meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 20.

Council approved a tender bid from Mallay’s Industrial Services Ltd. for the project at a cost of $284,018.38.

Two other bids were also received, one from Wally Drake’s Trucking Ltd. for $287,483.90 and another from Bennett’s Construction for $380,952.45.

Part of the project will include upgrades to the existing tennis court at the Marystown Track and Field Complex. A new court will also be built at the complex in a different area. The project will also see preliminary work completed so an additional court can be installed at the new site sometime down the road.

The tennis court project makes good on a promise to the Marystown Tennis Association. Two tennis courts were previously located on the site of the Marystown YMCA. They were removed to make way for the facility.

Mallay’s bid was higher than the amount budgeted for the project. Council approved $217,000 for the work this past summer.
