Market Square begins for season on Saturday
The much-anticipated return of Market Square will occur on Saturday, June 16 in downtown Swift Current.
The seventh exciting year of Market Square officially kicks off at 9:30 a.m. with the first bell ringing to launch another year of sales of fresh produce, hand crafted items, plus other vendor items. The awardwinning Market Square runs from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. every Saturday through to September at the BMO Courtyard.
Members of Swift Current Farmers’ Market join with other vendors and organizations Tony Hill sits behind the wheel of the 1953 Morris J-type Van he drove in the 1950s. to put on this popular Saturday event in the downtown core.
There are a series of special events to watch for during the 2018 Market Square season. A big celebration will occur on June 30 when Market Square runs in conjunction with the Frontier Days Parade. On July 21 the popular Superheroes Day will be hosted, where Market Square visitors can see a series of special costumes, plus local entries can participate in a costume contest. Then on September 8, the annual Cruising The Market, which includes a Show and Shine, will be hosted.
This year will be aiming to build on last years record number of vendors which showed during the season.
Market Square is fresh off their win as the First Place winner at the 11th annual Saskatchewan Municipal Award. Market Square was singled out as a project which was developed to help revitalizing downtown Swift Current, along with engaging local businesses, artisans, farmers and city administration on economic development.
