CCA rodeo returns to Saskatchew­an

The Canadian Cowboys Associatio­n rodeo circuit returned on May 24-26 with two rodeos in the province.

A total of eight Southwest competitor­s won money in six different events at the Kindersley Indoor Rodeo.

Maple Creek’s William Perrin had the top Southwest finish in second spot in Novice Saddle Bronc with 63 points for $450.

Eastend’s Bailee Humphrey raced her way around the barrels to place third in Ladies Barrel Racing in 13.34 seconds for $2,593. Shaunavon’s Haley Glasrud followed in fifth place in 13.42 seconds for $1,220.

The Southwest also had two cowgirls in the pay window in Junior Girls Barrel Racing. Maple Creek’s Janae Wilson was third in 13.86 seconds for $451. Sydney Murphy, also of Maple Creek, tied for fourth in 13.91 seconds for $273.

Waldeck’s Tyce Mcleod roped his way into the money with a thirdplace finish in Tie Down Roping. He finished in 9.9 seconds to collect $1,813.

Maple Creek’s James Perrin placed fifth in Junior Steer Riding with a 71point ride for $174.

Maple Creek’s Mike Gordon was sixth in Saddle Bronc after a 77-point ride on Spare Change for $249.

Swift Current’s Dusty Caragata added an eighth-place finish in Steer Wrestling in 5.3 seconds for $186.

The CCA was also in Mankota for the Dean Anthony Memorial Rodeo where three Maple Creek cowgirls led the Junior Girls Barrel Racing Average.

Logan Resch was first in 33.71 seconds, Lily Wilson followed in second in 34.05 seconds, and Cassidy Gordon was third in 34.26 seconds.

Resch won Go-round 1 in 16.77 seconds for $295 and then topped the Final in 16.94 seconds for $147.

Wilson was third in Go-round 1 in 16.99 seconds for $73 and then third in the Final in 17.06 seconds for $73.

Gordon was second in the Final in 17.04 seconds for $110. Janae Wilson also placed fourth in Go-round 1 in 17.06 seconds for $73.

A pair of Southwest cowgirls placed in the top five of the Ladies Barrel Racing average. Glasrud was second in 33.37 seconds, while Mankota’s Bailey Briere was fifth in 33.75 seconds.

Glasrud was second in Go-round 1 in 16.65 seconds for $669 and second in the Final in 16.72 seconds for $401. Briere was third in Go-round 1 in 16.68 seconds for $569 and fifth in the Final in 17.07 seconds for $150.

Waldeck’s Tee and Scott Mcleod finished in second in the Team Roping Average in 14.7 seconds. They were second in the Final in 6.5 seconds for $540.

Maple Creek’s Tanner Jones worked with Scott Sigfusson (Davidson) to place fifth in Go-round 1 in 6.7 seconds for $324.

Maple Creek’s James Perrin also finished second in Junior Steer Riding with 69 points for $291.

Two of the Southwest’s most experience­d cowboys were in the Tie Down Roping money. Mankota’s Shawn Williamson placed third in Go-round 1 in 8.8 seconds for $342. Swift Current’s Blaine Switzer was sixth in 10.2 seconds for $90.

Val Marie’s Wyatt Hayes was second in the Tie Down Final in 10.0 seconds for $270, while Williamson followed in third in 12.6 seconds for $180.

Williamson placed second in Average in 21.40 seconds, followed by Hayes in fourth and Switzer in sixth.

Tee Mcleod added a third-place finish in Go-round 1 of Steer Wrestling in 5.0 seconds for $288.

Piapot’s Casey Bertram tied for third in Saddle Bronc with a 73-point ride aboard Mackies Carbon Copy for $340. Maple Creek’s Adam Gilchrist followed in sixth spot with 71 points on Big Sky for $121.

Kincaid’s Jud Colliness rounded out the Southwest money winners in fourth spot in Novice Bull Riding with 68 points for $135.

There are three CCA rodeos this weekend, including Saskatchew­an stops in Pilot Butte and Radville.

The CCA will be back in the Southwest for Frontier Days in Swift Current on June 29 – July 1. The regular performanc­es will be June 29 at 7 p.m., June 30 at 1 p.m. and July 1 at 1 p.m.

Tuftin Mcleod is currently second for the Canadian High Point Award with $2,545 behind only Scott Sigfusson.

Riley Hayes is fifth with $1,433, while Tee Mcleod is seventh with $990.
