Midget 57’s win once on the road

The Swift Current Midget 57’s were only able to win once on the road in four attempts over the weekend.

The 57’s dropped their first game 8-2 to the Saskatoon Giants on Friday. They trailed 3-2 after four innings before the host Giants broke things open with a five-run fifth inning.

Nolan Klein and Brock Wall scored, while Mac Gross, during a two-hit outing, and Brady Bell knocked home the runs.

The 57’s won the back half of the double header when the two teams combined for 31 hits and 31 runs in an 18-13 victory.

The 57’s scored runs in five of seven innings, including a five-run third inning, followed by a six-run fourth inning. Klein earned the win, while Quinn Patenaude and Logan Fritzke both pitched in relief to preserve the win.

Fritzke led the offense with four hits, four RBI’S, two runs scored, two walks, and a stolen base. Catcher Brody Alexandre followed with a three-hit outing, including two doubles, four runs scored, three RBI’S, one hit by pitch and one walk.

Patenaude also had three hits from the leadoff position. He scored four runs, walked twice and stole a base. Gross also had a three-hit game, including two doubles and two RBI’S. Joe Arntsen added three hits, including a double, walked once, and knocked home three runs.

Nic Bachiu doubled, walked, scored twice, and finished with two RBI’S. Cash Arntsen finished with three walks and two runs scored.

Saturday did not go as well as the 57’s were shutout in both games by the Northwest Prairie Pirates.

The 57’s lost the opener 6-0 when they were held to four hits. Alexandre led the offense with a single, walk, hit by pitch, and stole a base.

They managed only two hits in an 11-0 loss to close the weekend. Alexandre had a single and a hit by pitch, while Cash Arntsen was on base with a single and walk.

Alexandre finished the weekend with a .559 average to lead the league. He was also second with 15 runs batted in.

The Midget 57’s finished the weekend with a 4-10 record in the Saskatchew­an Premier Midget AAA Baseball League.

The 57’s are on the road Sunday to visit the Southeast Twins for two games.
