Bron­cos open WHL pre­sea­son on the road

The Swift Cur­rent Bron­cos had a busy a busy week with train­ing camp, fol­lowed by their an­nual in­tra-squad game and two Western Hockey League pre­sea­son con­tests.

Team Blue scored the first three goals in a 3-1 win in the Swift Cur­rent Bron­cos an­nual Blue & White Game on Thurs­day af­ter­noon.

Matthew Culling scored in the first pe­riod, Lo­gan Fos­ter tal­lied in the mid­dle stanza, and Mitchell Vail­lant counted in the third pe­riod for a 3-0 lead.

Bray­den Shaw replied in the third pe­riod for Team White.

Jor­dan Fair­lie and Ash­ton Billes­berger each played score­less pe­ri­ods in goal, while vet­eran Joel Hofer al­lowed the only goal for Team Blue.

Isaac Poul­ter, Parker Sawka, and Jor­dan Frey each al­lowed one goal for Team White.

Fri­day, the Bron­cos opened the 2018 WHL pre­sea­son with a 4-1 loss to the host Regina Pats.

Vet­eran Macken­zie Wight scored with 35 sec­onds left in the sec­ond pe­riod to get the Bron­cos on the board.

Fair­lie made 32 saves in a los­ing cause for the Bron­cos. Carter Wood­side and Matthew Pe­senti each made 11 saves while shar­ing the win.

Satur­day, the Bron­cos dropped their sec­ond straight game with a 3-1 loss to the Saska­toon Blades in Regina.

The Bron­cos were out­shot 37-21, but got 34 saves from vet­eran Joel Hofer to stay in the con­test.

Vet­eran Ethan Reg­nier scored the only goal while short­handed in the sec­ond pe­riod in a los­ing cause.

The Bron­cos will play their fi­nal two ex­hi­bi­tion games against the Leth­bridge Hur­ri­canes next week­end. They visit the Hur­ri­canes on Septem­ber 14 and host them the fol­low­ing evening at 7 p.m. at the In­no­va­tion Credit Union iplex.
