Le­gion­naires knock off league lead­ing Blaz­ers

The Swift Cur­rent Home Hard­ware Le­gion­naires split a week­end home stand against the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League lead­ing Saska­toon Blaz­ers.

Fri­day, the Le­gion­naires held three sep­a­rate leads, but lost 5-4 to the vis­it­ing Blaz­ers. They led 3-2 in the third pe­riod be­fore Josh Nagy notched a nat­u­ral hat trick to put the Blaz­ers ahead for good.

Kersey Re­ich led the Le­gion­naires with three as­sists and Lo­gan Lin­klater scored twice. Hen­drik de Klerk and Bos­ton Bird each fin­ished with a goal and an as­sist, while Ma­son Strutt added two as­sists. Chris­tian Al­bert­son also had an as­sist and Ja­cob Her­man made 23 saves on 28 shots in the loss.

Satur­day, the Le­gion­naires led most of the way in a 5-2 vic­tory on goals from five dif­fer­ent skaters. Her­man made 20 saves on 22 shots in the win. Lin­klater and Bird led the of­fense with a goal and an as­sist each.

Reed Ja­cob­son and Rhett Ev­jen also scored. Lucas Ochitwa, Ri­ley Dekowny, Jaxon Martens and Strutt all added as­sists.

Cole Nagy and Max Gud­na­son replied for the Blaz­ers. Matthew Pisenti took the loss for Saska­toon af­ter al­low­ing five goals on 22 shots over 35:23. Brett Mir­wald stopped all five shots he faced in re­lief.

The Le­gion­naires moved their record to 11-5-0-0, while the Blaz­ers re­main in top spot at 16-3-0-1.

The Le­gion­naires only have one game this week when they travel to Wil­cox to visit the Notre Dame Hounds on Satur­day.
