Partners in Employment adds community job search resource centre
Job seekers have a new location where they can access supports while they are conducting an employment search.
The Saskabilities Partners in Employment hosted an open house on December 12 to formally unveil the Community Hosted Job Search Resource Centre through Labour Market Services. There are a series of services delivered at their #1 240 Central Ave. N. location now available to the entire community.
“There are computers available for individuals to do job search, and then there is staff available as well if they have any questions about anything in regards to that,” explained Jackie Powell, Supervisor Partners in Employment.
“I think this just kind of builds on what we’re already doing - assisting individuals that have disabilities and barriers to employment - and now expanding that to individuals that are needing potentially just some guidance as far as different job search possibilities. We have good relationships with a number of employers in town, and we get contact from those employers saying that they’re looking for specific positions to fill or individuals. When people come in we’re able to recommend that these are potential places that they may wish to apply, so just giving them a little bit of a bonus when it comes to assisting with their job search,” Powell said.
Because of these existing partnerships, they can provide supports when individuals are pursuing jobs on saskjobs.ca or the National Job Bank.
“We can provide a little bit more detail as to potentially different things they may want to highlight in a cover letter or resume because we have that regular contact with many employers. And just having that extra support available if they have a question in regards to something that they’re applying for.”
Partners in Employment added this additional service starting back on October 1, and response has been growing.
“It’s been going very well,” she said. “In November we had an additional 140 people come through the door on top of everybody else that we serve. So it’s definitely being well utilized and making it more known and publicized that the service is available for individuals, then hopefully we’ll be able to assist more people find employment.”
