Mitchello’s moves from Quinan to Yarmouth

A husband and wife team of 16 years launched a food service in the sparsely populated Quinan community, a 25-minute drive from the closest town, this past spring. A lot has happened since then.

Mitchell and Tracy Muise say they had the idea for Mitchello's Pubstyle Eatery before the pandemic and decided to go for it regardless.

Days typically start at 6 a.m. for Tracy, when she starts the gravies, donair meat, kneads dough, makes pizza sauce, garlic spread, eggroll fillings, chops up vegetables, and more.

The menu includes hot lobster rolls, fried clams, haddock, shrimp, chicken, fries, onion rings, wings, burgers, nachos, poutines, pizza, subs, and more.

Mitchell does the town runs, some deliveries, and picks up supplies.

With the arrival of summer, Mitchello's became busier than a bee in honey. It soon became apparent that relocating the business closer to Yarmouth might be a better idea.

Parking was limited in Quinan, as was space for picnic tables and lineups. Road upgrades (although ultimately good for the community) were a slight damper for people willing to drive the distance to Mitchello's, only to be stuck for 15 to 20 or more minutes each way.

“Our move to town wasn't a decision we took lightly that's for sure, however, in the end we felt it was the right step in order to move forward,” says Tracy.

“Many customers would ask about ice cream or dessert, so when the opportunity arose to move behind Hakuna Matata (an ice cream shop) it was very exciting,” she says.

“Their ice cream is amazing and we knew we would make a great ' team.'”

The couple is now building a commercial kitchen in Quinan where meal preps will be done, and products can continue to be sold in stores, with more added as they grow.

Currently, they've put a halt to providing wholesale products (donair eggrolls, oven subs, sandwiches, burgers, wraps, wings, etc).

“There just isn't enough hours in a day!” says Tracy.

Once they resume selling, their products can be found at Dayton

Red and White, Carl's Store, and the Tusket Ultramar. More stores are waiting to be added to the list.

“We do have plans for expansion, hopefully before the cold weather hits so we are able to stay open all year. We're currently open TuesdaySunday, 11 a.m.-9 p.m., however, our hours will likely change with the seasons,” says Tracy.
