Here are some of the programs and activities happening at the branches of Western Counties Regional Library in early March.

Grab-and-Go Bags

March during open hours

Stop by your local library branch to pick up a Mo Willems Puppet Plays-themed kit until March 15 and a March break outdoor activity-themed kit from March 16 to 31. Kits are geared toward children in Grades 3 to 5 but can be enjoyed by all ages. Visit any of the library's 10 branches to pick up these kits.

Bubble Wrap Cherry Blossom Tree

Friday, March 4, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Children ages five to eight can paint a cherry blossom tree with bubble wrap. Register by March 3. Nova Scotia Health protocols apply.

Craft Night: Mermaid Journal

Wednesday, March 9, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Create a journal as unique as you. Learn a book-binding technique to make your own notebook and then decorate it. This program is for ages 11 and older. Nova Scotia Health protocols apply. Register no later than March 8.

Puzzle Exchange

Open hours

Bring in any old puzzle and exchange it for a new-to-you one. There will be a limit on puzzles accepted at one time.

Scrapbooki­ng Club

Thursdays, 6 to 7:45 p.m.

Adults can do their own scrapbooki­ng project with a group who want to share ideas and projects. Bring your own supplies. Participan­ts must register by 4 p.m. the day of the program. Masks are mandatory. No food or drink is allowed. Nova Scotia Health protocols apply. Proof of vaccinatio­n is required.

Butterfly Garland

Tuesday, March 15, 2 to 4 p.m.

Children ages five to 12 can create butterflie­s from magazine pages. Space is limited so register no later than March 5. Nova Scotia Health protocols apply.

Income Tax Help for Persons with Low Income

Tuesdays, Wednesdays & Thursdays, 12:30 to 4 p.m.

Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Do you need help with your tax return? You may be eligible for help at a free tax clinic if you have a modest income and a simple tax situation. Registered volunteers will electronic­ally file your tax return for you. Call to book an appointmen­t. Hours are subject to change. Dropping off/picking up is an option with permission form (available on site).

Together Time Tales

Friday, March 4 and 11, 10:30 to 11 a.m.

Caregivers and children five and younger can join us for an interactiv­e story time at the library. Space is limited. This program is repeated two weeks in a row to allow for more people to attend. Nova Scotia Health protocols will apply. Register at least one week before a session. Proof of vaccinatio­n is required for caregivers.

Say-It-With-Morse-Code Jewelry Making

Wednesday, March 16, 3 to 4:30 p.m.

Youth 12 and younger can make different types of jewelry using beads to spell words in Morse code. Make something for yourself or to send a special message to a friend or family member. Nova Scotia Health protocols apply, including proof of vaccinatio­n. Register by March 10.

Do you need help with your tax return? You may be eligible for help at a free tax clinic if you have a modest income and a simple tax situation. Registered volunteers will electronic­ally file your tax return for you. Drop off your paperwork at the circulatio­n desk, confirm your ID, fill out the permission form, and pick up your completed return the next week. Call the library to book a 30-minute in-person appointmen­t on Fridays.

Mid-Week Break: Valentine’s Astronomy

Wednesday, March 2, noon to 1 p.m.

In this presentati­on inperson and via Zoom, amateur astronomer Tony Schellinck is back again to talk about the night sky. In the winter, the Greeks had two love stories that described constellat­ions covering most of the night sky. Tony Schellinck will tell the story of Andromeda and Perseus and introduce participan­ts to seven constellat­ions and several deep sky objects that are easily observed using binoculars. Toastmaste­rs

Thursday, March 3 and 17, 5:15 to 7 p.m.

Develop public speaking and leadership skills through the Yarmouth Chapter of Toastmaste­rs Internatio­nal via Zoom or in-person at the library. Mid-Week Break: Building a Canoe

Wednesday, March 9, noon to 1 p.m.

During this in-person and Zoom presentati­on, Sandra Phinney will give a slide presentati­on that will span making a chestnut canoe with master canoe makers in Doaktown N.B., including an overview of the canoe in Canadian culture and history. Arts & Crafts with Feral Carol: Éire go Brách!

Friday, March 11, 3:15 to 4:15 p.m.

Participan­ts will make green shamrock sun catchers to hang in their windows in celebratio­n of St. Patrick's Day. This program is for children ages eight to 12. Nova Scotia Health protocols apply. Register by March 10. Note: Éire go Brách, among other forms, means “Ireland till the end of time.”

Where’s That Pokémon?

Monday, March 14 to Friday, March 18 during open hours

Pokémon have shown up at the Yarmouth library! They're lost in the children's section of the library. Follow the clues to find them all. Solve the puzzle and get a prize! Drop in anytime during March Break to search. This is a self-directed program geared toward children ages five to eight but all are welcome. Nova Scotia Health protocols apply.

Teens and adults can pick up a Book Bingo card and read books that fit the suggestion in the squares. Complete a row and return your card to enter a prize draw. Enter as often as you wish!

Doodle and Paint a Pet Portrait
