Santa Claus en­tered El­liot Lake in fine style

There were as many as 40 en­tries in the 39th An­nual El­liot Lake Santa Claus Pa­rade this year.

Hun­dreds of chil­dren and adults lined the pa­rade route from the Lester B. Pear­son Civic Cen­tre to the Collins Hall on Fri­day evening.

While Santa was high up on his sleigh at the end of the pa­rade and ac­com­pa­nied by one of his elves, the El­liot Lake Wild­cats hockey play­ers were his hon­our guard walk­ing be­side him.

There were prizes awarded to the seven en­tries in the pa­rade.

The Best Over­all En­try went to Villa Fran­caise des Je­unes (French high school) in El­liot Lake.

First place in the Clubs and Or­ga­ni­za­tions cat­e­gory went to the El­liot Lake Fam­ily Health Team, and sec­ond place went to Ecole Georges Vanier (French el­e­men­tary school).

First place in the Busi­ness class was El­liot Lake Re­tire­ment Liv­ing, with sec­ond place go­ing to Tex in the Trees.

In the Walk­ers class, first place went to the Al­ls­tar Chil­dren’s Cen­tre, with Korean Mar­tial Arts tak­ing sec­ond spot.

There were some or­ga­ni­za­tions that had not been in the Christ­mas pa­rade be­fore. One such group with the Royal Cana­dian Le­gion Branch 561, sev­eral of whose mem­bers told The Stan­dard this was their first time in the pa­rade.

Fol­low­ing the pa­rade there was hot choco­late and hot­dogs to help warm the par­tic­i­pants. Chil­dren also got to sit on Santa’s knee and pose for photos.
