The el­liot lake Wild­cats lost a close game to the soo Thun­der­birds at the cen­ten­nial arena on satur­day evening.

The Thun­der­birds got off to a start three sec­onds be­fore the first in­ter­mis­sion on a goal by nick smith, on a power play.

and for the first four min­utes into the sec­ond frame the Thun­der­birds were lead­ing the Wild­cats 4-0, with goals from noah bo­man, lu­cas The­ri­ault and Gage steph­ney.

but a minute later, the ‘cats got on the scoreboard on a goal by eric con­ley, with the as­sists com­ing from con­nor Tay­lor and brett lan­nin. Just 15 sec­onds later, Jay­den Par­nell scored the ‘cats sec­ond goal of the game, with help from Tan­ner hicks and con­nor Tay­lor.

at the 10:36 mark, Tan­ner hicks got the Wild­cats closer by scor­ing on soo goal­tender Wil­liam an­der­son. The as­sists went to con­nor Tay­lor and mark Perone.

With three min­utes left in the sec­ond pe­riod, avery re­bek scored for the Thun­der­birds, mak­ing it a 5-3 game.

af­ter 6:46, Josh bi­folchi score for the ‘cats mak­ing it a 5-4 games, with help from noah minns and caleb minns.

With 1:29 left in reg­u­la­tion time, af­ter the Wild­cats coach pulled net­min­der do­minic boily, in favour of an ex­tra at­tacker, noah minns scored the ty­ing goal with the as­sists go­ing to lan­nin and Perone. That sent the game into over­time.

With 44 sec­onds left in the over­time pe­riod, steph­ney scored for the Thun­der­birds mak­ing the fi­nal score 6-5.

There were 15 penal­ties in the game, eight to the Thun­der­birds and seven to the cats. Three of the penal­ties for each team came in the third pe­riod, af­ter a fight broke out the soo’s kobe seguin and the ‘cats Josh bi­folchi.

The Thun­der­birds out­shot the Wild­cats 45 to 34.

The Wild­cats next four games are on the road. The ‘cats next play the kirk­land lake Gold min­ers on dec. 7 at the Joe mavrinac com­mu­nity com­plex. The next day the play the Powas­san Voodoos at the Powas­san sport­splex.

The Wild­cats next home game is on Thurs­day, dec. 20 at 7:30 p.m.
