Simplified gourmet at Syndicate Restaurant

- JOE CRAWFORD

Fine-crafted beer was a common interest for a group of friends from Niagara, who decided to open Syndicate restaurant.

That incredible, Niagara-inspired beer had a hunger for some great tasting, gourmet food. They went with simple gourmet food, but with a twist, like a duck poutine or fresh pasta stuffed with black truffles. They’re items you wouldn’t expect to find at the average brew house.

Next, the friends added delicious, rich vegetables, greens and savoury edibles right from farm to table. Continuing to keep it local, they went with only the best beef, pork and poultry. No hormones, just the good stuff: grass and grain fed only.

You can find Syndicate in three locations in the Niagara Region, each with its own touch. Located in Grimsby, St. Catharines and Niagara Falls, each offers “gourmet food without having to find the gourmet prices,” manager Christina Jeffries tells me.

In Niagara Falls, the Syndicate has a brewery on-site, where you can see how some of the best ale in Niagara is made. In St Catharines, there’s live entertainment every Thursday night.

The Syndicate works in partnership with farmers from Dunnville. “They raise and grain feed all our cattle…” executive Chef Josh Berry tells me as we make a tenderloin dish that will be featured on the new menu when winter comes.

Berry is the creative mind at Syndicate in St. Catharines who handles the seasonal menu changes and runs the kitchen. “At Syndicate the guests deserve the very best … that’s why we work with the local farmers to raise our beef hormone free, grass and grain fed,” he says.

Along with the beef tenderloin, Berry also shows me another new dish of pickerel with winter vegetables and sweet peas, along with brussel sprout puree. In addition to serving families across Niagara and visitors who come in for “great food at a great price,” Syndicate also hosts functions and events. Whether it’s a brew house location with a tour, a live entertainment restaurant venue or just a restaurant you want to enjoy yourself with family and friends, Syndicate has you covered for every need. Good friends serving you gourmet food without the gourmet prices, paired with outstand- ing Niagara crafted ales, lagers and local wines. A collaboration of farm, table and brew house, working in perfect harmony to offer a uniquely-simplified gourmet dining experience. It’s an offer you really can’t refuse.
