A’s drop second straight decision to Northmen

The St. Catharines Athletics dropped their second straight 11-8 decision to the Orangevill­e Northmen in Ontario Lacrosse Associatio­n junior A lacrosse action.

The loss put the A’s two under the .500 mark at 2-4.

The A’s l ed 4- 3 after one period while the game was tied 7-7 after two. Orangevill­e outscored St. Catharines 4-1 in the third.

Eric Fannell and Josh Rex paced the A’s with two goals each while singles went to Marcus Butters, Cody Ward, Holden Garlent and Kyler Kilgour.

Matt Vangalen led the Northmen with three goals and three assists.

Jake Frost made 31 saves in goal for the A’s.

St. Catharines hosts Brampton Wednesday at Jack Gatecliff Arena at 8 p.m.

JUNIOR B Mohawks 21 Spartans 6

The St. Catharines Spartans fell to 5- 6 with a loss at Elora Saturday.

Elora led 4-3 after one period and then pulled away with 14 goals in the second.

Jason Sawicki had two goals for St. Catharines while Evan Scott, Danny Blocho, Chris Robertson and Jacob Schenck added singles.

Kurtis Woodland l ed the Mohawks with three goals and four assists.

Nick Damude kicked out 40 of 56 shots while Justin Rombough made 14 more saves on 19 shots in goal for the Spartans.

The Spartans visit the Niagara Thunderhaw­ks Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. and host the London Blue Devils Thursday at Merritton Arena at 8 p.m.

Thunderhaw­ks 6 Northemen 3

The Thunderhaw­ks improved to 10-3 with a win at Orangevill­e Saturday.

Brad Thomas had two goals for Niagara while Brennan Ferguson, Austin Wright, Derek Merza and Zach Luis also scored.

Graeme McCullough made 37 saves in goal for the win.

SENIOR B

The St. Catharines Saints ran their record to 6- 0 win a pair of wins over the Wallacebur­g Thrashers.

Sunday in Wallacebur­g, the Saints topped the Thrashers 10- 5 behind three goals each from Joel Mathews and Geoff McNulty. Dylan Llord, Mark Debrone, Chris Attwood and Jordie Daradick also scored.

Grant Crawley made 27 saves in goal for the win.

Friday night at home, the Saints won 9- 7 behind three goals from McNulty and two from Attwood. Mathews, Llord, Dustin Gatt and Blade Garlow also scored.

The Saints are home to Owen Sound Friday at 8 p.m. at Jack Gatecliff Arena.
