Three people are wanted in connection with a stabbing Thursday night on Brookfied Ave. in Niagara Falls.

A 41- year- old man, whose identity has not been released, was sent to hospital with lifethreatening injuries. On Friday afternoon, his condition was listed by Niagara Regional Police as “serious, but stable.”

The stabbing was not a random act, said Const. Phil Gavin. The victim was known to the suspects.

Police said the whereabouts of the three wanted persons is unknown. It’s possible they have left Niagara and are somewhere in southwestern Ontario.

Police said they may be driving a white, four- door 2007 Mazda M3H with Ontario licence plate No. BSFR529.

Police have not released any information on whether a weapon had been recovered or if the victim suffered one, or possibly more, stab wounds.

Police, firefighters and Niagara Emergency Medical Services paramedics responded to Brookfield Ave., at about 11:23 p. m., after receiving information about a man on the street who was reported to have been stabbed.

“The man was treated by Nia- gara EMS and was transported to a local hospital,” said Gavin. “Subsequently, he was transported to an out-of-town hospital with what were believed to be life-threatening injuries at the time.”

Gavin would not say what hospital the man was taken to.

A section of Brookfield Ave., south of Lundy’s Lane to Barker St., remained closed Friday morning while police continued their investigation. Officers from the forensic unit went to the scene Thursday night to gather evidence and detectives were talking to residents in the neighbourhood.

While a section of the street remained closed, residents who lived inside the area that was blocked off by police tape were able to come and go, but they needed to be escorted by police.

Brookfield Ave., was reo- pened later in the day Friday.

Police said the victim does not live on Brookfield Ave.

As a result of their investigation, police will be seeking arrest warrants for three people who are wanted for aggra- vated assault. They are Todd James Turner, 28, of Niagara Falls; Gary Joseph DeGazio, 32, of Welland, and Melissa Ann Szpular, 20, of Guelph.
