Franco, Spurlock films headed to Toronto film festival
TORONTO — The world premiere of James Franco’s The Disaster Artist and Morgan Spurlock’s followup to his Oscar-nominated documentary Super Size Me are headed to the Toronto International Film Festival.
Organizers announced another slate of films on Tuesday and they include Franco’s film, which he directed and based on the making of Tommy Wiseau’s 2003 cult film The Room.
It will be in the horror and thrilled-filled Midnight Madness program, which will open with the world premiere of Bodied by renowned music video director Joseph Kahn.
Spurlock’s Super Size Me 2: Holy Chicken! will have its world premiere in the documentary section of the fest, which runs Sept. 7 to 17.
Other newly announced films in the lineup include Greg Barker’s The Final Year, about former U.S. President Barack Obama’s foreign policy team.
Nicolas Cage and Selma Blair star in the world premiere of Brian Taylor’s thriller Mom and Dad.
Canadian comedy star Jim Carrey is featured in Chris Smith’s documentary Jim & Andy: the Great Beyond — the story of Jim Carrey & Andy Kaufman featuring a very special, contractually obligated mention of Tony Clifton.
Meanwhile, Grace Jones: Bloodlight & Bami by Sophie Fiennes captures the legendary performer on and offstage, and primatologist Jane Goodall is profiled in Brett Morgen’s doc Jane.
Lili Fini Zanuck’s Eric Clapton: Life in 12 Bars is said to be the definitive biography of the rock legend.
And Jason Kohn’s Love Means Zero profiles tennis coach Nick Bollettieri and his history with Andre Agassi.
