Niagara opens the doors for weekend’s Culture Days

- JOHN LAW

The arts will be everywhere in Niagara for the annual Culture Days celebration this weekend.

Activities are scheduled throughout the country for the three-day celebration, today to Sunday.

Events are scheduled at Rodman Hall Arts Centre today, including the aMUSE 5 Pop Up Museum and artmaking open house.

“Rodman Hall was one of the first locations in St. Catharines to participate in Culture Days, joining the movement in 2012,” said Rodman Hall art educator Michelle Nicholls, citing an increase in funding from the St. Catharines culture committee to the increase in programs throughout the city.

“Community partnerships are so important to a compassionate cultural community, in past years Rodman Hall has worked with Carousel Players and Playwrights Niagara to deliver Culture Days programs.”

Several events will be held at FirstOntario Performing Arts Centre in downtown St. Catharines, with activities planned from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. Featured will be a StoryWalk in the outdoor gardens, a Moonhorse Dance theatre workshop, an ‘instrument petting zoo’ by Niagara Symphony Orchestra and a Foster Festival workshop in which a play is created from scratch.

Other St. Catharines venues include Mahtay Cafe, Marilyn I. Walker School of Fine and Performing Arts and Silver Spire Church.

Niagara Falls History Museum will again offer behind-the-scenes tours of its vast collection today, Saturday and Sunday. Tours will be at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. all three days.

Culture Days was created by Canada’s largest arts organizations in 2007 to provide free, hands-on culture in communities across the country.
