Two Brads better than one in 5-pin league

- JEFF STEVENS

Two rookies in the Niagara 5-Pin Mixed Pro League with the same moniker, took matters into their own hands to lead the Oh Canada Eh Dinner Show Canucks to a 3-0 whitewashing of the Lakeside Electrical Lightning.

Brad Gaudreau, the senior of the two, paced the winners with a steady 747 (249, 235, 263), while junior partner Brad Maurice followed closely with an electric 738 (214, 252, 272).

Adam Eckhardt rounded things out with 700 (233, 225, 242) even.

The Lightning struck back with Tyler Wendel’s 776 (214, 242, 320), while getting help from Tim Dixon, who tossed 638 (246) and

Melina Driver, right behind with 637 (243).

In the only other sweep of the night, when three of the four matches were settled by less than 100 pins, the Wine Place Whiners blanked the Dale Mellway Life Insurance Magic 3-0.

John Wendel had the hot hand for the Whiners, rolling 689 (244, 241), while Rob Macdonald backed him up with 634 (245).

The Magic were led by Matt Vendittelli, who rolled a 593 (234, 230) in the match decided by only 59 pins.

Shawn Pellizari continued his fantastic season as he had the best individual performance of the night — a scorching 820 (350, 231, 239) — to spark the Scorecard Harry’s Half Pints to a 2-1 decision over the Ontario Street Boston Pizza Brutes in a match decided by a mere 80 pins.

Brian McFarlane added 652 (243, 220) in the win. The Brutes shot back with Chantal Papineau’s 678 (216, 258) and Trish Aubertin’s 655 (243).

In the evening’s final match, this one decided by 51 pins, the Reggie’s Renovations Inc. Hammerheads took two of three from the Oh Canada Eh Dinner

Show Town Criers.

Rob Fisher was a model of consistency for the winners as he took the reins for the Hammerheads, firing 687 (234, 227, 226), and getting pushed along by Chris Disher’s 632 (231).

The Town Criers replied with some consistency of their own as Kile Robins fired 700 (230, 233, 237), while younger brother Josh Robins supported his effort with 646 (222, 218).
