Falcons extend point streak to 23 games

Notch their fifth win in a row with victory over Jr. Canadians

Nearly three months, and counting.

That’s how long it’s been since the St. Catharines Falcons last lost a game in regulation in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League.

To be exact, the date was Sept. 24; the result, a 4-2 setback on the road to the Hamilton Kilty B’s.

There was no chance of the Falcons’ point streak coming to an end Sunday night in Welland. They jumped out to a 7-0 lead on the way to a 9-2 victory over the Jr. Canadians.

St. Catharines, which won its fifth in a row and has earned at least a point in 23 games, improved to 23-3-0-2, second in Golden Horseshoe Conference behind the Niagara Falls Canucks, 24-30-1.

Sunday night’s loss dropped the Jr. Canadians to 8-19-0-2.

Ethan Sims, Andrew Somerville, with two goals apiece; Noah Blakely, Christian Girhiny, Mike Masotti, Jake Orr scored for the Falcons.

Matthew Maidens, Jarett Olbruck replied for Welland, which was outshot 54-32.

St. Catharines went 0-for-2 on the power play; Welland, 1-for-3.

Next action for the Falcons is 7:07 p.m. Thursday at the Thorold Blackhawks, 13-13-1-1.

Welland is back on the ice the following night at the Pelham Panthers.

Pelham, 16-11-0-2; visited the Hamilton Kilty B’s, 19-9-0-1; in Golden Horseshoe action Monday night.
