Blackhawks snap seven-game losing streak

One streak ended and another continued Thursday night in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Golden Horseshoe Conference.

At Thorold, the host Blackhawks scored two unanswered goals on their way to edging the Pelham Panthers 3-2 and stopping a sevengame losing skid.

At Hamilton, the Kilty B’s blanked the Fort Erie Meteors 3-0 for their ninth win a row.

Fifth-place Thorold improved to 14-18-1-2 on goals from Jonathan Balah, Dylan Latty, Evan Miller, on the power play.

Logan Warner, Chris Webber, power play; replied for Pelham, fourth in the eight-team conference with a 20-13-0-2.

Shots on goal were 20-19 in favour of the Panthers, and each team finished the game 1-for-6 on the power play.

Pelham was back of the ice Friday night hosting the seventhpla­ce Welland Jr. Canadians, 8-22-0-3

Thorold is off until next Thursday when it hosts Welland.

Kilty B’s 3, Meteors 0

Cal Schell stopped 17 shots for his second shutout of the season as third-place Hamilton improved to 25-9-0-1.

Derek Raposo, Lucas Thompson, Holden Rogers, short-handed; found the back of the net for Kilty B’s, who moved five points behind the Niagara Falls Canucks, 27-40-1; and six back of the St. Catharines Falcons,

27-3-0-2.

Fort Erie, seventh, 9-22-0-3; lost its third in a row and was shut out for the second time in as many games.

Hamilton outshot the Meteors

42-17.

Neither team was able to connect with a man advantage: Fort Erie, 0-for-3; Hamilton, 0-for-4.

The Kilty B’s were in St. Catharines Friday, while the Meteors

are home to the Canucks the following night.

Other Friday night action in the Golden Horseshoe had the Lockport Regals, eighth, 4-29-0-1; at Niagara Falls.

RiverHawks 4, Shamrocks 2

At Niagara Falls, Niagara jumped out of a three-goal lead and doubled visiting Hespeler in Thursday night Provincial Junior Hockey League action at Gale Centre.

Niagara won its second in a row and improved to 17-13-0-3 in the junior C league’s South Bloomfield Division thanks to goals from Jacob Saddler, Nick Volpatti, Reid Lowe, Tyler Seguin.

Matt Boere of the RiverHawks, who before the game was honoured as division goaltender of the month, made 27 saves as Niagara outshot the visitors from Cambridge 39-29.

Hespeler went 1-for-8 on the power play; Niagara, 0-for-4.

The RiverHawks visit the Hagersvill­e Hawks on Saturday night and are home to the Glanbrook Rangers next Thursday.
