Panthers win third in a row

Canucks move back into first place

Wyatt Thole netted a hat trick and Thomas Young two goals to lead the Pelham Panthers to a 10-2 victory over the Jr. Canadians in Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League action Sunday night in Welland.

Pelham, which won its third in a row and sixth in seven games, also got scoring from Jackson Barrett, Noah Caperchion­e, Brendan Charlton, Matt Ruigrok and Devin Sanders.

Matthew Maidens and Dryden Rivet replied for the Jr. Canadians, who lost their seventh in a row to drop to 8-24-0-3 in league play.

The Panthers improved their record to 22-13-0-2, fourth in the

Golden Horseshoe Conference.

Pelham outshot Welland 51-30 and went 2-for-5 on the power play. The Jr. Canadians finished the game 0-for-6 with a man advantage.

The Panthers host the Lockport Regals next Sunday. Welland visits the Thorold Blackhawks on Thursday.

Monday night’s Golden Horseshoe schedule has the Niagara Falls Canucks, 29-4-0-1, at the Hamilton Kilty B’s, 26-9-0-1.

Falcons 5, Regals 2

At Lockport, N.Y., former Erie Otters goaltender Noah Battaglia made 36 saves Saturday night in his debut for St. Catharines, backstoppi­ng the Falcons past the Regals.

James Gowland, Christian Girhiny, Tanner Main, Andrew Somerville and Kyle West scored for the visitors who were outshot 38-25 Saturday night in western New York. Hunter Litman and Alex Stinis found the back of the net for Lockport, 4-31-1-0.

On the power play the Falcons were 0-for 1; the Regals, 0-for-7.

St. Catharines, 28-4-0-2; returned to the win column one night after an 11-game win streak and a 29-game streak of earning at least a point was snapped.

Joseph Colasurdo’s goal was all the offence the Falcons could muster in a 4-1 loss to the Hamilton Kilty B’s Friday night in St. Catharines.

Lockport is back on the ice Wednesday host the Fort Erie Meteors, 9-23-0-3. St. Catharines entertains Niagara Falls in a 7 p.m. puck drop Friday at Jack Gatecliff Arena.

Canucks 6, Meteors 2

At Fort Erie, Niagara Falls won its fifth in a row and moved back into first place in the Golden Horseshoe Conference, one point ahead of St. Catharines.

Ben Evans, power play; Matthew Riva, short-handed; Nicholas Prestia, David D’Agostino, power play; Justin Kyle and Luke McFarlane scored for the Canucks.

David D’Agostino and Luca Mazzo, power play, had one goal each for the Meteors.

Shots on net were 55-33 Niagara Falls, with the Canucks going 2-for-4 on the power play and the Meteors 1-for-6.
