Who’s really to blame for Ontario’s fiscal woes?

-

The plight of the homeless and sufferers from mental conditions are indeed something we should be openly critical of, as have been some writers here.

However, after 2003, the Liberals were in power and drove Ontario into near bankruptcy with their waste and deals with teachers unions, et al. Despite the Liberals’ campaign promises to not raise taxes, they immediately did so. That wasted money, millions upon millions of dollars, might have been used better to help the indigent.

So, after being in control of budgets, expenditures and deals for 16 years, who then is really responsible for Ontario’s current deplorable state? Who is responsible for the circumstances of the indigent and such?

Yet, there are those that would today, in 2019, attribute Ontario’s current deplorable condition to mean-minded Mike Harris. Really? That Progressive Conservative Mike Harris was premier way back, from 1995 to 2002.

Yet now, after years of Liberal mismanagement, the best some people can do to excuse our current mess is to point fingers at the politically long distant past.

Now, with the new government of Premier Doug Ford being handed the Liberals’ deficit leavings, things need be done. But everyone thinks nothing impacting them should be cut. Meantime, we go on paying out billions in interest on Ontario’s deficit. Ontario’s Liberal deficit.Of course, we will have to tighten our belts. That’s probably because it’s, oh I don’t know, Mike Harris’s fault. While Kathleen Wynne and Dalton McGuinty were, of course, diligent caretakers of our public purse. Not. Ron West Thorold
