Niagara Parks series showcases local food movement

-

Niagara Parks has announced the upcoming dates for its 2019 Pop-up Dinner series.

Showcasing the settings and sites along the Niagara River corridor, the series features locally inspired menus prepared by Niagara Parks chefs, paired with local craft beer and VQA wines, as guests are treated to stories from experts and guest speakers.

Since May 2017, Niagara Parks has expanded the series to include fall and winter editions.

Niagara Parks officials said the agency’s culinary philosophy of promoting the local food movement is the foundation of each Pop-up Dinner event.

Each dinner allows guests the opportunity to hear not only from Niagara Parks experts, but also from community partners who represent the local food and beverage products showcased in each menu.

The next dinner is sold out, to be held May 30 at Oak Hall. The event will feature a discussion on the building’s history by Niagara Parks historian Sherman Zavitz. Other guest speakers include Ed Madronich of Flat Rock Cellars and Shawn and Ed Brewing Company, which will be among the featured beverage suppliers for the event.

The series then travels to Niagara-on-the-Lake July 20, as the parkland surrounding Niagara Parks’ oldest property — McFarland House — is transformed as the host site for the Pop-up Dinner.

Continuing into the fall, the final instalment of the series will coincide with Niagara Parks’ annual event series, Rooted, which features nature and garden-themed workshops, special events and programming. The fall event is scheduled for Sept. 19.
