Fiction

“The Daughter’s Tale,” by Armando Lucas Correa. In 2015, an elderly American woman receives letters written by her mother during the war. Her mother, Amanda Stemberg, left Berlin in 1939 after her husband was sent away by the Nazis. As she fled for refuge to the unoccupied South of France, she was forced to make unthinkabl­e sacrifices.

Through her dreams, encounters with Tlingit/ Tagish spirits help her find the strength to heal many wounds.

“The Summer Cottage,” by Viola Shipman. Divorced Adie Lou Kruger has inherited her parents’ beloved cottage on the shores of Lake Michigan. With a broken marriage, an empty nest and middle age looming, she is determined to rebuild both the cottage and her life.

Non-fiction

“American Moonshot,” by Douglas Brinkley. An awardwinni­ng historian and bestsellin­g author examines the history of the space program, President John F. Kennedy’s goal of reaching the moon before the end of the 1960s and the race to make it happen.

“The Five,” by Hallie Rubenhold. Presented here are the untold stories of the women who were murdered by infamous Victorian serial killer Jack the Ripper.

“Mentors,” by Russell Brand. British comedian Brand examines the concept of mentoring and shares lessons he has learned from those who mentored him throughout his life.

“He Speaks Volumes,” by Rebecca Wigod. Based on diaries, interviews and extensive research, this biography explores the life of George Bowering, Canada’s first parliament­ary poet laureate and the author of more than 80 books.

“Bake the Seasons,” by Marcella DiLonardo. This features more than 100 recipes for comforting, sweet and savoury dishes that celebrate seasonal flavours.
