Canucks move into second place

Road win in Hamilton lifts Niagara Falls a point ahead of Kilty B’s

- BERND FRANKE REGIONAL SPORTS EDITOR

Things are looking up for the Niagara Falls Canucks, and for one of the Jr. B hockey team’s go-to guys on offence. Andrew Bruno scored two goals and added an assist as Niagara Falls defeated the Hamilton Kilty B’s, 6-2, to move into second place in the Greater Ontario Junior Hockey League’s Golden Horseshoe Conference, one point ahead of Hamilton.

Jake Adams, Anthony Issaris, Thomas Lenart and Max Lightfoot also scored for the Canucks (12-5-2-1). Anthony Tremonte earned the victory between the pipes for Niagara Falls, which improved to 1-0-1-1 in head-tohead play versus Hamilton.

Steven Laforme and Christian Pelley tallied for the Kilty B’s (12-6-1).

His two goals moved Bruno into a tie with Carson Edwardson of St. Catharines for second in the league, and his three points Monday night at Hamilton tied the sophomore forward for tops in points with Sean Kawalec of the Kitchener Dutchmen, with 37 points each. Bruno and Edwardson both have 16 goals so far this season, two less than Kawalec and one more than Joel Mazzilli of the Caledonia Corvairs.

Hamilton outshot the Canucks 42-38 and went 1-for-5 with a man advantage while allowing Niagara Falls two goals on four power-play chances.
