Time served for woman snubbed by sexual liaison

A woman who became enraged after a man who agreed to a sexual liaison in exchange for cash changed his mind upon seeing her in person has been released from custody.

Jennifer Gosling appeared in Ontario Court of Justice in St. Catharines Thursday via audio conference from Vanier Centre for Women in Milton and pleaded guilty to a slew of charges including robbery, fraud and theft.

The 41-year-old received a sentence of time served — having spent the equivalent of six months in presentence custody — and placed on probation for three years.

In February, court was told, a man contacted Gosling after reading an ad on an escort website and made arrangements to meet her for a sexual encounter and drugs.

The man went to a Huron Street residence for the liaison but, upon seeing Gosling, decided he’d pass on the sex.

“The victim told the accused she looked nothing like the advertisement and therefore he didn’t want sex, just the drugs,” said assistant Crown attorney Greg Smith.

He said Gosling became enraged and demanded payment for both sex and drugs. The man refused but the defendant ripped cash from his hands and ran away yelling “he touched me.” Two men then barged into the room and confronted the victim. One man held a switchblade to his throat, while the second man brandished a pair of pliers.

Gosling also pleaded guilty to being in a motor vehicle with a firearm, in connection with a shooting incident in Niagara Falls in November 2017. In that case, two men drove the defendant to the Second Avenue home of her former boyfriend.

Court heard the vehicle pulled up in front of the residence and one of the men pulled out a shotgun and fired multiple times.

“It caused the front window to shatter and there are multiple holes in the siding,” Smith told Judge Donald Wolfe.

No injuries were reported.
