Wendel is cooking six weeks into the Niagara five-pin season

Half Pints bowler rolls 860 triple in win over Magic

- JEFF STEVENS SPECIAL TO THE ST. CATHARINES STANDARD

Tyler Wendel is making a run at reclaiming his men’s high average crown in the Niagara Five Pin Mixed Pro League.

The two-time title holder has lost out the past two seasons to Shawn Pellizari but he is making a deliberate run at getting back on top.

Wendel’s start to the season has been nothing short of torrid as he has topped the vaunted 800 benchmark in four of the season’s first six weeks.

This week was no exception as he started with games of 243 and 207 before tying his career-high single of 410 to finish with a blistering 860 set to lead the Half Pints to a 2-1 win over the Magic.

Wendel had help from Kile Robins, who also had his best week of the season, firing a lane-scorching 806 (202, 358, 246). Tim Dixon finished things off with a solid 679 (263, 228). Replying for the Magic were Josh Robins, who rolled a steady 754 (270, 269, 215), and P.J. Cole, who added 629 (224, 221).

In the evening’s closest match, decided by 29 pins, the Lightning topped the Canucks, 2-1. Joe Thomas paced the winners with 703 (211, 264, 228), while Rob Fisher trailed close behind with 693 (239, 231, 223).

The Canucks fought back with Brian Mcfarlane’s 680 (252, 220, 208).

In the nightcap, the town Criers knocked off the Gutterballs, 2-1.

Pellizari continued his grip on the men’s high average at the moment, pacing the Town Criers with a sizzling 826 (238, 356, 232) while getting helped along by Dave Pendlebury’s 706 (259, 254) and Kayla Ferguson, who added 652 (236, 211).

The Gutterballs answered with Vicky Robins’ 695 (244, 262).
