A new Niagara business is aiming to make a difference this upcoming holiday season.

The North Pole Co. is a promotions strategist and influencer marketing organization focusing on providing giveaway contests, prizes and gifts to its social-media followers and the Niagara community.

The startup is led by a group of local entrepreneurs — Matt Guarasci, Brandon Mimms, Umberto Campana and Vittorio Fragale.

Together, they have created the organization with the intention of providing as many unique gifts as possible to Niagara residents this holiday season.

“COVID-19 has really shaken things up when it comes to finances, disposable income, business development and everything in between,” said Guarasci, community co-ordinator for the company.

“The main reason why we’re doing it around Christmastime is to give back to the Niagara Falls community who may not be able to afford Christmas presents this year.”

Currently, the North Pole Co. operates the Instagram pages @thegrinch, @santaclaus, @outdoor, @shoes, @niagarafalls, @usa and more.

By working with companies which want to donate prizes or experiences, the company shares the brands’ content across these pages while in

creasing its social media following.

“Instead of asking for money, right now for the holiday season, we’re just exchanging value to companies,” said Guarasci. “We partnered with Starbucks (for example), so they gave us a bunch of free merchandise/ product to give away and in return, we’re going to spread some awareness with the intention of growing their social media accounts with whatever it is that they see fit. It’s kind of like a value exchange.”

He said the company is going to give away a large variety of prizes this holiday season. So far, more than 25 businesses and celebrities have agreed to provide donations.

“We’ve received donations from Walk Off the Earth, Elijah Woods x Jamie Fine, Starbucks Canada, Hornblower Cruises, Niagara River Lions, Parkway Social and more.”

Mimms, creator of the North Pole Co., has 10 million followers across his social media pages. He approached the rest of the startup team with the idea to merge business donations with social media promotions.

“I’ve been working on various social media platforms and growing accounts for years,” said Mimms. “Most recently, I’ve developed a strategic partnership with Mark Cuban’s media team regarding promotions, consultation and account acquisition.”

The company hopes to acquire more than 50 donations from Niagara companies and international brands.

“We’re trying our best to not only help the local residents of Niagara, but also the businesses in it by providing them as much exposure as possible to our social media pages,” said Mimms.

Guarasci said the giveaway initiative is something the company wants to do on a regular basis, but will gauge how successful the first effort is before deciding on a path forward.
