- JEFF STEVENS SPECIAL TO THE ST. CATHARINES STANDARD

Tyler Wendel and Shawn Pellizari have owned the men’s high average title in the Niagara Five Pin Mixed Pro League for the past five years and counting, Pellizari for the past three consecutive years and Wendel the two years before that.

The two met in a head-to-head tilt last week at Pla-mor Lanes in St. Catharines as the third and final segment of the league winds down to its last few weeks. The two captains put on a display that leaves no doubt as to why they have been in the position they’re in.

This time, Wendel’s Rozie’s Café Alley Cats came out on top, posting a 2-1 decision over Pellizari’s Lakeside Electrical Lightning.

Wendel took the lead, sparking his team with a fantastic 875 (250, 296, 329) and getting help from Bill Stockill’s 640 (214, 263).

Pellizari was almost equal to the task, as he took the reins for his team, firing a lane-scorching 860 (269, 321, 270), while getting help from Larry Fast’s 624 (226) and Kayla Ferguson’s 618 (229).

The hottest hand of the night, however, belonged to Chris Disher as he pasted the boards for the second-best men’s series of the year and fourth-best in the league, including the men’s second-highest single of the year, a sizzling 887 (252, 259, 376) to lead the Mr. Eavestrough Gutterballs to a 2-1 decision over the Scorecard Harry’s Half Pints.

Disher was pushed by Chris Ciolfi’s 701 (215, 287) and Rob Fisher’s 663 (233, 221).

The 800 sets were flying out of the bowlers’ hands this week, as the Half Pints replied with Dave Pendlebury’s super 806 (249, 269, 288).

The Cornhole Creations kept their hold on the top spot in the league with two weeks to go as they edged the Harbour Estates Winery Winey Loonies 2-1.

Payton Peters led the winners with a 680 (224, 268), while Sarah Stevens followed closely with a 671 (270, 213). The Winey Loonies answered with Kile Robins who fired a solid 740 (223, 293, 224), while getting help from Brad Maurice, who rolled a 683 (239, 247) and Tim Dixon who carded a 655 (258, 205).

In the evening’s final match, the Dr. Allison Zaruk’s Main Street Chiropractic took two of three from the Global Financial Wizards.

Brian Mcfarlane rolled a 682 for the Main Street Chiropractic squad, while Jeff Stevens checked in with 636 (255, 211) and Vicky Robins added a 614 (241).

Replying for the Wizards were Josh Robins, who threw a 672 (231, 222) and Nathan Marr-schoenfeldt, who rounded out the scoring with a 654 (230, 245).
