SIMOS, Calliope "Popy"
Born in Crete, Greece August 10, 1940, Popy passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Friday, March 3, 2023 at the Welland Hospital at 82 years of age. She is now reunited with her beloved husband Angelos. She was the devoted and much-loved mother of George (Tricia), and John (Brandy). Loving Grandmother "Yiayia" to Julian, who brought so much joy to her life. Daughter of the late John and Sophie Mpalothiaris. Loving sister to Antonis, and Georgia. Predeceased by her sister Mary, brothers Manoulis and Fotis, sister-in-law Anastasia and brother-in-law Spiros. Sister-in-law to Joanne (late George), Antonia and Laura. Loving Aunt to Nella, Bill (Dora), Peter, Anthony, and many nieces and nephews. Popy came to Canada to build a better life for herself and her future family. She worked for many years as a waitress in her family run restaurants alongside her husband and extended family. Popy was a quiet, reserved, intelligent, kind, and generous soul who made friends easily. Mom was always steadfast, and the strongest person we knew who always stood by her convictions. She was the everconstant rock for her family, always making them her number one priority. May she rest peacefully, and may her memory be forever eternal. Popy will be lovingly remembered by her family and friends. She will be sadly missed but never forgotten. Family and friends of Mrs. Simos will be received at St. Katharine Greek Orthodox Church, 585 Niagara St., St. Catharines on Thursday, March 9, 2023, after 9:30 a.m. with the First Thrice Holy Hymntrisagio Service offered at 10:00 a.m. The Funeral Service will immediately follow the First Thrice Holy Hymntrisagio Service at 10:05 a.m. with the Final Thrice Holy Hymntrisagio Service to follow at Sanctuary Park Cemetery, 1570 Royal York Road, Etobicoke.
