Peggy was born in 1926 in Cardiff, Wales, and moved to Canada in 1945. She crossed the Atlantic on the Queen Mary with other war brides and arrived in St. John's, NL in November 1945. Having raised her family in St. John's, Peggy returned to London, England, and later married Rudy Nijenhuis in 1979. Peggy and Rudy then moved to St. Catharines, Ontario in 1992. Peggy and Rudy settled into the St Catharines community and became active members of the Dunlop Seniors Associatio­n. During her years there, Peggy was involved with the Club choir and played various roles in musical production­s. This was a source of great enjoyment for the club members and her family.

Predecease­d by her husband Rudy in March 2023, Peggy leaves to mourn sons: Robert Pittman (Heather) of St John's NL and Russ Pittman (Cathy) of St Catharines; grandchild­ren: Heidi Story (Shawn), Matthew Pittman (Laurie), Russell Pittman (Clare) all of St John's NL; Adam Pittman (Julia) of Port Hope, and Sean Pittman (Laura) of Kitchener; great-granddaugh­ter Mabel of Port Hope; great-grandchild­ren Paige, Luke and stepgrandd­aughter Jessica of St John's. Peggy also leaves to mourn stepsons: Frank Nijenhuis (Yolanda) and Wouter Nijenhuis (Anneke) of the Netherland­s; stepgrandc­hildren: Nils, Gwenda, Nick and Mike of the Netherland­s; and great-stepgrandc­hildren: Twan, Owen and Jente of the Netherland­s. As per Peggy's wishes, cremation will be followed by a gathering of family and friends to celebrate her amazing life.
