ZIMMERMAN, Vincent Vern

-

June 21, 1928 - March 3, 2024

Our family is sad to announce the passing of Vincent Vern Zimmerman in his 96th year on March 3, 2024. Happily, it was a long life, well lived. Vincent was the loving and dedicated husband of Isabel (nee Ewing-schoenhals d.2003). He was the beloved father of Frances Dayboll (nee Schoenhals d. 2020, Leroy d. 2018), Karen Schoenhals of Port Colborne, Vernon Zimmerman (Sharon) of Haliburton, Elaine Macdougall (Jim) of Port Colborne, and four grandchildren Myron, Bruce, Lorie and Matthew. He was predeceased by his parents Vernon and Alta, his brother Maynard and sister Rita (Pilot). Dad lived most of his life in Sherkston, within a mile or so of where he was born and raised. He met Isabel, the love of his life, in 1952 when a friend suggested he give her a hand to install her new licence plates. They were married in 1954. Mom and Dad worked hard, enjoyed life and had a strong sense of community and faith in their church. Vince was an Elder for the Sherkston United Church and a member of the Masonic Lodge for over sixty years. Dad was a driver, spending many miles behind the wheel both professionally at Wallace/ Red Star Express, and while on many vacations across North America (he was still driving his Ford truck up to the end of last year). After retiring, he and Isabel enjoyed trips to Alaska, Europe, Hawaii and New Zealand, but they always said they enjoyed getting back home to Sherkston. The family extends thanks to the Niagara Health System, the doctors, nurses and staff, and to the caring team of professionals at Portal Village where Dad had an apartment for the past five years. Cremation has taken place with arrangements entrusted to ARMSTRONG FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 179 Clarence Street, Port Colborne. A private family service will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Vince's memory may be made to the First United Church Sherkston, or the Canadian Cancer Society.
