Charities to benefit

The Sudbury Star - - NEWS -

The staff at the Conseil scolaire catholique du Nouvel-Ontario (CSCNO) board office will donate almost $9,000 to five Greater Sudbury charities to help support those in need this Christmas season. The Maison McCulloch Hospice, Association des jeunes de la rue, Neo Kids Foundation, Sudbury Food Bank and CTV-Lions Children’s Christmas Telethon will each receive $1,776. Throughout the year, CSCNO board office employees can contribute $2 each week to take advantage of dress-down Fridays. This initiative is among the many other charitable endeavours at CSCNO schools and at the board’s head office. A number of schools have undertaken to prepare Christmas hampers for underprivileged families, while some have begun a non-perishable food drive for their regional food bank. Still others have chosen to help children in foreign countries by contributing to the Samaritan’s Purse Canada Operation Christmas Child. Finally, at CSCNO’s head office, winter clothing and personal hygiene items are being gathered for donation to the Association des jeunes de la rue. “The generosity of our students and employees is a fine demonstration of the value of helping one another, which is so central to Catholic education,” education director Lyse-Anne Papineau said in a release. “I am proud to be part of this group of people who are so committed to contribute to the well-being of the less fortunate members of our communities.”
