Po­lice ID crash vic­tim

The pedes­trian who died Wednesday af­ter be­ing struck on the Kingsway has been iden­ti­fied as a 40-year-old man of no fixed ad­dress.

“His next of kin has been no­ti­fied and out of re­spect for their wishes, we will not be re­leas­ing his name,” Greater Sud­bury Po­lice said in a tweet. “Our con­do­lences go out to those af­fected by this tragic event.”

The vic­tim was struck by a ve­hi­cle around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday on the Kingsway near Third Av­enue, dy­ing later of his in­juries.

The po­lice ser­vice said its traf­fic man­age­ment unit con­tin­ues to in­ves­ti­gate and is still hop­ing a male driver who stopped at the scene will con­tact them to shed more light on the cir­cum­stances of the crash.

“Any­one with in­for­ma­tion re­lated to the col­li­sion, the pedes­trian or the driver of the light­coloured SUV that stopped at the scene and may have wit­nessed the col­li­sion, is asked to con­tact po­lice 705-675-9171,” the ser­vice said.
